It depends on your country. In the United States, the IRS generally recommends keeping records for three years after you file, and longer in some situations. In Canada, the CRA generally requires six years from the end of the tax year. In the United Kingdom, self-employed people should keep records for at least five years after the 31 January submission deadline, and in Australia the ATO generally requires five years.
